The Fundraising and Business Plan were developed to restore the area back to its original pre-European period. The Orokanui Ecosanctuary is an Otago Natural History Trust project on the slopes of Mihiwaka. Restoration of the 307 hectare site overlooking Blueskin Bay has provided an accessible yet secure, natural habitat for native plants and fauna. The bio-diversity of the Orokanui Ecosanctuary provides an environment for Tuatara, Kiwi, Saddleback, and Kakapo, and is surrounded by a predator-proof fence to keep out pests.

Malcolm is a graduate of the Otago University Faculty of Dentistry. He commenced practice as a solo practitioner in the 60's and developed the first group dental practice in Dunedin, selling it in the late 80's. Malcolm was also a Clinical Tutor in the faculty and continues to deliver a management module to final year under-graduates.
